Frequently Asked Detailing Questions

Running a car care brand I get a lot of questions regarding taking care of your own car! Kaiju Care aims to bring Highly effective, easy to use products that anyone can use to maintain their vehicle! Our customers want to have the cleanest car but understand that if done incorrectly they can do more harm in the long term.

What follows is a series of frequently asked questions to help give you a basic knowledge of car care! If you have any more questions you'd like the answer to just send an email to hello@kaijucare.com

Can you wash your car too much?

If done correctly there’s no reason you couldn’t wash your car as much as you like! The right combination of chemicals and techniques ensures contaminants and debris are carried away from the paint to ensure no damage occurs.

How do I wash a ceramic coated car?

A pH neutral snow foam product like Gentle Foam is a quick and easy way to get your ceramic coated car shining like the day it was applied. A high pH (alkaline) or acidic wash solution will shorten the life of your coating and potentially strip it away prematurely.

If you have had a ceramic coating applied you can definitely shorten their life with contact washes (sponge, mitt etc), this is a main benefit of using solely the foam wash on your ceramic coated cars.

What’s the best cost efficient way to wash my car?

A Car wash would have to be least cost effective, and it goes without saying: stay away from their brushes. Excluding the initial cost of equipment, a combination of bucket wash and pressure washer / foam cannon would be the most cost efficient!

These days high quality chemicals don’t have to cost a fortune to achieve an excellent wash in the comfort of your driveway. Let's do the math: 500mL of Washi Washi (our bucket wash) works out about $2 per wash and Foam Fury (our Pre wash foam) works out the same $2. So for $4 per detail you can take your time, in the shade and achieve better results with better chemicals at home!

If you speed run the car wash you may get out of there for $5 but it definitely won’t be enjoyable or thorough but I would say on average you’d be spending $8-$10 per wash at a car wash using god knows what on your paint.

Using a reputable chemical brand at home is cheaper, better for you paint and ultimately a more enjoyable experience than going to the car wash.

Do you recommend people invest in a good sponge for a hand wash before going out and looking at some high end soaps?

I feel that a middle ground is ideal! When looked after, a reasonably priced microfibre wash mitt or pad will last ages and do a great job, as long as you’re not using a cheap foam sponge or brush of any sort on your paint!

Same goes with Chemicals, try to stay away from the cheapest options as they often cut corners to ensure the price is as low as possible, where as a reasonably priced wash used in the right way will give good results but don’t get tricked into spending big because of the buzzwords

How often should I wash my car?

Kaiju Care recommends once a week if you have the time OR more whenever damaging contaminants hit the paint as you want to get them before they embed or cause damage!

The added benefit of keeping this ritual is your paint is easier to clean. I get a lot of questions about the easiest way to clean a car and (in general) if you’re just driving around town like normal a weekly wash will allow you to get away with just letting a pre-wash foam break down the light soiling, rinse it off and then dry!

How do I remove bat poo from my car?

The diet of bats make their droppings highly acidic, meaning you need to remove them immediately in order to avoid discolouration of your paint:

  • Spray the area with Showtime Quick Detailer.
  • Allow the formula to sit for a moment.
  • Wipe off in one swipe with a microfibre cloth.
  • If any droppings remain, repeat the process. Do not scrub the area as this can introduce scratches.

A proactive step like applying a protective coating can make cleaning off the stubborn debris like bugs and tar easier while also buying you more time to get bird and bat droppings off before they damage the paint.
